Hitachi EX1200-7
The 1:50th scale model, produced by TMC Scalemodels, is packed with detail and realism and is one of the best Hitachi replicas produced to date. The model captures all the aesthetics of the original, and has plenty of functionality, like the sliding access ladder on the side, mounted to the service platform which is constructed from perforated photo-etch flooring panels with the cabin having an opening door to get a better look at the interior space which is faithfully replicated. Moving to the service area for the engine, there are hinged panels that can be opened to get a glimpse of the engine bay within, while raised panels with a perforated surface are highlighted with black printing, with printing also used on the many small rectangular anti-slip mats on the upper deck area.
The undercarriage has narrow track pads fitted, which have a double-grouser design and remain taut, thanks to the tensioned idler wheels that allow the tracks to rotate, while keeping the shape nicely. The track frames have all the lower roller detailing engraved into the casting with raised upper rollers and access steps on both sides.
What is most impressive as you look over the model is the amount of metal used in the construction. All the safety railings and grab rails are metal, as are all the raised hydraulic supply lines on the back of the boom with flexible and armoured hoses hooking up to the hydraulic cylinders. All the pin heads have been touched up, with the ram ends also painted for authenticity to the original. The range of movement of the front-end equipment is accurate, and the bucket is exceptionally detailed, with all the ground engaging wear plating replicated, right down to the lifting eyes on the corner wear parts and to top it off, the teeth and side cutters have been painted blue. Any fan of quarrying and mining equipment will be delighted to add this mini marvel to their collection.
